DISABILITY

Many public buildings in the UK are inaccessible for people with physical disabilities. However, modern Masajids such as Masjid-e-Quba in North London has provided accessibility for disabled people as part of their overall design. The Masjid is also fitted with a disabled lift from the outside and disabled lavatory facilities.

Lift for Disabled people

A person with a disability should live life to the fullest. Everyone should be equally participating in all aspects of society, after all, what is the gift of life for? One of the basic Islamic duties is to have mercy on others. One way that would help us to have more compassion would be to reflect on ourselves. If we were to have a disability how would we want to be treated?

Time and time again, Muslims with disabilities and their families state that there are no support mechanisms within the Muslim community; that they do not know about their entitlements. Mainstream services do not respond adequately to their individual religious needs as Muslims.

Within the Stamford Hill Muslim community we also have disabled huffaz who are connected with the world reknown Darul Loom institute Madresah An Noor for the Blind http://www.mnblind.org and have also hosted programs by them at the Masjid with their principles, teachers and students.
